Keynote: Supporting Positive School Transitions & Youth Wellbeing

Across the past decade, global research has shown a clear and concerning decline in the wellbeing and life satisfaction among children and adolescents, worsening further since 2021, with particularly steep declines among adolescent girls.

At the same time, schools are increasingly aware of the importance of wellbeing, yet often lack evidence-informed, practical frameworks for strengthening wellbeing within everyday school settings—especially during periods of transition that place additional developmental and psychological demands on adolescents. These transitions often coincide with rapid social, emotional, and biological change, making them critical points for both vulnerability and opportunity.

This keynote by Dr. Gazal Bharara draws on longitudinal research and real-world school data to highlight how schools can intentionally strengthen key predictors of wellbeing, support positive transitions, and improve both developmental and educational outcomes.
